The Information ranked the world’s 50 most promising startups, as based on their respective “potential to be the most valuable businesses in their categories based on their current revenue, business model, and growth prospects.” They limited the list to companies that had begun operations in the past three years, had raised less than $100 million in revenue, and were valued at less than $1 billion.
Firstbase raised $50 million in Series B funding in a round led by Kleiner Perkins. The remote-work startup helps companies onboard new staff working from home.
Sequoia Capital China is raising $8 billion in new funds. “Even as much of the private market seems to be grappling with a slowdown, raising big funds seem to be en vogue,” writes Crunchbase’s Chris Metinkpo in the piece.
According to the Wall Street Journal, House and Senate staffers are supposed to convene in the near future to discuss plans to regulate data gathering, as Congress aims to take another whack at implementing new privacy legislation.
On the back of increased demand for at-home grocery delivery, Instacart’s valuation doubled to $39 billion during the first year of Covid. Now, as restrictions ease, it is “falling back to earth.” According to CNN, “the decade-old, privately-held startup informed its 3,000 corporate employees that it is revising its valuation down to $24 billion, citing market conditions.”
