  • And we’re back at it with you-know-who: Former president Trump may launch “TRUTH Social,” a Twitter clone, to rival Silicon Valley. The app, set for a beta launch in November, stands up to big tech, Trump said. Trump plans to merge his new company, Trump Media and Technology Group, with a SPAC – shell companies that get listed on exchanges like Nasdaq only for merging – so the media company can publicly trade on Nasdaq.

“We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, yet your favorite American President has been silenced. This is unacceptable," Trump said in a written statement included in the release.

  • P 💗 P: Paypal said they may buy Pinterest for $45 billion. If enacted, the deal would be the largest consumer internet deal of the past decade, The New York Times wrote. Buying Pinterest will help Paypal move into e-commerce. This 2021 proposal by Paypal adds on to its 2019 purchase of Honey, which shows discounts while people shop online. The potential Paypal + Pinterest deal also trumps Microsoft’s $26 billion purchase of LinkedIn in 2016 and Salesforce’s $27.7 billion purchase of Slack.

  • Bookface … anyone? Facebook reportedly will change its name under a company rebrand. The company, which owns Instagram, Whatsapp, and virtual reality brand Oculus, is facing a PR crisis after former employee Frances Haugen leaked tens of thousands of documents saying that Facebook prioritized profits before people.

  • Dun dun dun … Microsoft plans to shut down LinkedIn in China after hardships complying with Chinese government rules.
